Carnival Cruise Line cabins and suite guide: Everything to know

The Thermal Suites include dry heat chambers, steam chambers and a hydrotherapy pool, which you can use at any time during the cruise. On Carnival cruises, a Premium Interior (code 4N or 4O) is essentially just a larger version of an Interior room. They’re about the same size as a Balcony cabin, but without the Balcony attached. They’re only available on Mardi Gras, and give you extra floor space compared to a regular Interior. In fact, the Mardi Gras doesn’t have any Interior rooms with an obstructed view at all. The smaller Interior rooms don’t leave you a lot of floor space with a twin or double bed in there, but they are some of the cheapest you can book on a modern cruise line.

Cruise Cabin Essentials You Need To Pack

Available on nine Norwegian ships, these two-bedroom family villas with a balcony are located in The Haven, the ship within a ship area thats reserved exclusively for Haven guests. Theres also a living room and dining area with an additional single sofa bed. Carnival cruise ships have cabins in all categories that can accommodate families of three or four, either with a sofa bed or pull-down bunk beds. All ships have connecting rooms, so parents with older children who need more space (and two full bathrooms!) can book adjoining rooms that have a door that opens up between them. On many cruise ships, inside cabins are smaller than oceanview and balcony cabins.

We still find these cabins to be charming and social – and the exclusivity keeps you out of the crowds – but those looking for privacy should skip them. Not all cabins are able to accommodate scooters; those traveling with scooters must contact the cruise line ahead of their sailings. An Interior stateroom is the most affordable way to cruise, and Mardi Gras’ interiors don’t leave out the comfort!

If you don’t want to squeeze your entire family into one cabin, try booking adjacent cabins that interconnect. In terms of the decor, the general color scheme is burnt-orange, burgundy and brown with light woods, while Art Deco touches abound throughout. All balconies (even suites) have two plastic chairs and a small cocktail table; suites include one additional plastic lounge chair.

There are also only three of these, and they are insanely expensive, so they are not practical for most vacationing families. These round screens look like porthole windows and show camera footage from the bow of the ship, enhanced with animated Disney friends who pop in to wave hello. As we said, families can’t go wrong with any cabin on a Disney ship. Most rooms sleep three or four, and all but the smallest have split baths – one room with a toilet and sink and a second with a tub/shower combo and sink. They also feature the split bathrooms, so the toilet is separate from the shower.

These rooms typically feature two twin beds that can be converted into a queen-size bed, along with a sofa bed and pull-down bunk bed. The new Disney Wish includes the cruise line's first-ever Concierge Tower Suite. It's a multilevel suite that's 1,966 square feet and is located in the famous Disney Cruise Line stack.

The typical Carnival balcony cabin has a contemporary look, with clean lines and relatively minimalist furniture. It typically features twin beds that can be converted into a king bed, a built-in desk area and a sofa that often pulls out into an additional bed. Balcony cabins typically measure around 185 square feet, not including the veranda area, which often measures 35 square feet. They also are designed with families in mind, with many offering accommodations that would work perfectly for those with kids in tow – multiple beds per cabin and connecting staterooms, for example.

These rooms are located closer to the waterline, providing a unique perspective and a sense of being right on the edge of the sea. Otherwise, the room is a fairly standard Interior layout and will have two twin beds that can be converted into a King, as well as some rooms having extra Pullmans or sofa beds for kids. A Porthole stateroom (category code PT) on a Carnival cruise is still classed as an Interior room, despite the fact that you’re getting a (limited) view of the ocean. These rooms have twin round windows that are small, but do allow some natural light into the room. On most ships, guests in these family suites have access to The Haven with their incredible VIP perks, exclusive pool deck, lounge, and exclusive restaurant. Many of the line’s suites, from junior suites on up to the Royal Loft Suite, can sleep four to six people; we found a two-bedroom Grand Suite that can sleep eight.

It has lively Latin music and Cuban-inspired coffees and cocktails, making it a really fun place to hang out. However, if you’re looking for a more cost-effective option, Royal Caribbean is more affordable than both Carnival and Norwegian. While it doesn’t have as many rooms or amenities as Carnival, it does have more than the room on Norwegian Dawn, at the second most affordable price. And that remains true even if you upgrade to a room with a virtual balcony or promenade view window. However dont forget about the lack of natural light, which could be a dealbreaker.

Or just spend time on your balcony — you’ve got one of our most spacious rooms. For me, if you’ve got the money then definitely look at the Family Harbor, Cloud 9 or Havana Interiors. The Family Harbor is one of the best Carnival cruise rooms – a great budget choice when cruising with kids, and the extra activities help to keep them entertained during quieter moments.

One exception is the new Carnival Venezia, which has a darker (faux) wood finish to furniture in cabins that ties into the ship's Italy theme. Unlike some of its biggest competitors, Carnival isn't known for a huge range of cabin categories on its vessels. Picking a cabin on a Carnival Cruise Line ship isn't nearly as complicated as picking a cabin on, say, a Royal Caribbean or a Celebrity Cruises ship.

Bathrooms are comfortably sized for one person and have plenty of shelf space by the sink for everyone's toiletries. Not so in the shower, where one small shelf is barely enough space for one person's personal supplies. The new Loft 19 enclave found on both Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration offers full bar service, a private pool surrounded by sun loungers and cabanas available for rent. Still, some of that has begun to change with the debut of Carnival's new Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration. Carnival went big with the suites on the groundbreaking, 5,282-passenger vessels — the biggest Carnival ships ever. The Havana Cabanas all are found on Deck 8 forward, and those guests on Deck 9 can look down into your balcony.

If you have 5 or more, you will have to give Celebrity a call directly. You can see all the furniture details on Carnival Cruise Line Carnival Legend cabin plans in the above table. Havana Interior cabins are available on Mardi Gras, Carnival Vista, Carnival Horizon and Carnival Panorama. In 2016, Carnival Cruise Lines rolled out fleetwide for-fee room service menu, which items can be ordered 24/7.
